The Nike Air Max 1 “Evolution of Icons” was released in March 2021 as part of Nike’s annual Air Max Day festivities. The first Nike Air Max shoe and one of the most influential sneakers of all-time, the Air Max 1 was created by legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield in 1987 and features a visible Air unit in the heel of the midsole, a first for a Nike shoe. As for the “Evolutions of Icons,” the multicolor look is a descendant of the popular “What The” theme that mixes and matches various colorways into one design. White tumbled leather detailing can be found on the toe and mid-panel and on half of the mudguard. The lateral mudguard features a gradient light-to-dark-grey construction in tribute to the design of the panels on the original Air Max 95. Elsewhere, the Air Max 90 “Infrared’s” accenting are shown on the upper eyelets and the tongue branding and Swooshes in multiple colors are a reference to styling of branding found on iconic Air Max styles, including the “Menthol” Air Max 93. The embroidered stripes added to the toebox reference the Air Max 98. The debossed “3.26” insignia on the back of the shoe salute’s the date of Nike Air Max Day. Release date: March 26, 2021.
